Week One

Well here it goes....

My name is Mitchell McNamara I'm a 19 year old student studying at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. I'm currently undertaking a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Political Communication and Public Relations. I've always had an interest in politics and I believe in expressing my views. This is one of the many reasons why I am studying communications.

LECTURE REVIEW- Defining Communication & Technology
The first lecture today examined and discussed what is communication and technology. We looked at a number of ways of how we communicate now with technology and how we communicated in the past. The internet was heavily mentioned and discussed on how it plays a vital role in communication today.

TUTESPARK- How do we distinguish between old and new communication technologies?
As society has evolved so has technology. Technology has and still plays a major role in our society especially in the sense of communicating. People communicate all the time through different ways, whether it would be by speaking, writing or drawing. Though the question that must be answered here is how do we distinguish between old and new communication technologies, and under which circumstances will new technology become old?
One major piece of communication technology that has had a major impact on society is the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876 and this was a massive breakthrough in communciations. Though for the next hundred or so years there wasn't much advancement with the telephone. However when the mobile phone was invented that changed the course of telecommunications. You could say when the mobile phone was invented the telephone became an old piece of communcation technology.
